Louise Wu Music Scholarship

The Louise Wu Music Scholarship

Louise Wu (1929-2020), music educator and soprano, was a vibrant part of the Staten Island music community. She was a beloved piano and voice teacher to thousands of students, faculty member of the Academy of the Arts at the College of Staten Island, Music Director and President of the St. Cecilia Music Society, board member of both the Staten Island Symphony and the Staten Island Chamber Music Players, and dedicated member of the Associated Music Teachers’ League. Her students won numerous Young Musician’s Competitions at the College of Staten Island, and many went on to study at The Juilliard School, the Manhattan School of Music, and at Ivy League Schools. Among her voice students who have concertized worldwide, one became a lifelong member of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, and another studied voice at the Milan Music Houseof Music. Other students have become music critics and professors of music. She was recognized in 1998 by Assemblyman Straniere’s Staten Island Women in History. Louise’s boundless enthusiasm, her joy of music, and her generosity of spirit were remarkable and have left a legacy with her family, community, and around the world. This scholarship will honor her lifelong passion for music education.
